Agro Inc engages in oil palm, natural rubber, and cassava cultivation. In Liberia, our plantations are located in Montserrado, Margibi, Bong and Nimba Counties along the Kakata-Ganta corridor, while significant land holdings are yet to be developed in Maryland and Bomi counties. In 2008, Agro Inc began exploring production opportunities presented by adjacencies within the southern province of Guinea and eastern region Sierra Leone.
We own palm oil mills to process fruits from our own and surrounding plantations into crude palm oil and palm kernel oil. Agro Inc is developing an extensive out-grower program by helping smallholder farmers surrounding our nucleus estates with inputs and training. By increasing planted areas and improving yields using modern planting material, the company expects its production to grow by an average of 18 percent annually over the next 10 years.
In order to cope with this increase, Agro Inc plans to expand its processing facilities accordingly. An investment program has been put in place for the period 2015 - 2020. Industrial investments comprising factory extension and provision of new power generation facilities will be spread over 2016 and 2018. The existing building program will be accelerated with the provision of a minimum of 100 houses for workers per annum together with social amenities over the next 5 years, in order to make plantation life more attractive for resident workers and their families. In a first for Liberia, Agro Inc has contracted an ICT company to bring rural telecommunication to the areas surrounding our up-country plantation estates.
At Agro Inc, we are committed to the use of world class farm management practices, which include good field and harvesting standards and timely application of fertilizers to optimize crop yields. We have also established stringent corporate social responsibility policies and procedures to ensure that our plantations are developed in an environmentally and socially responsible manner.
